Drivers will be left facing a 30-mile diversion route while a road just outside a Suffolk town is closed.

Part of the A1071 in Newton, near Sudbury, will be closed from 8pm and 6am between Thursday, July 11 and Friday, July 12.

While the road is closed, Anglian Water will be carrying out urgent works in the area.

According to the Suffolk County Council website, the official diversion route is 30 miles long.

The diversion route includes A roads because some vehicles like HGVs cannot go down smaller roads that others would use as shortcuts.

The road will be closed between the Trott's Lane turn-off in Newton and School Lane in Boxford.

The A1071 is a busy road that connects Sudbury to Hadleigh and Ipswich.

People living down the A1071 in Newton and Boxford will still be able to access their homes, the county council website confirmed.
