Drivers face 'three points on licence' after 'not parking on double yellow lines'

Drivers have been warned they could face £100 fine and three points for parking in a rush. The act of 'Leaving a vehicle in a dangerous position' can result in an immediate £100 fine and three penalty points, which linger on a driver's record for four years.

Graham Conway, Managing Director at Select Car Leasing, warns motorists and drivers nationwide: "You might only be popping into your local restaurant to pick up a curry or kebab, but if you've parked inconsiderately you risk falling foul of the law."

Mr Conway adds in his urgent warning for road users: "And if you're hit with a £100 fine, points on your licence and a hike in the cost of your car insurance, your takeaway dinner will end up looking like one very expensive meal indeed."

The Road Traffic Act clearly states: "If a person in charge of a vehicle causes or permits the vehicle or a trailer drawn by it to remain at rest on a road in such a position or in such condition or in such circumstances as to involve a danger of injury to other persons using the road, he is guilty of an offence."

Select Car Leasing warns motorists: "There are myriad ways in which your parked vehicle could be judged as a 'danger' to others, and that includes parking less than 10m away from a junction." It comes as The Highway Code stipulates: "You MUST NOT leave your vehicle or trailer in a dangerous position or where it causes any unnecessary obstruction of the road."

"And while you might assume you'll be in and out of the restaurant with your food before anyone even notices your poor parking, it only takes a second for the police to see it and take action," Select Car Leasing has also warned.
