Drivers are being slapped with points on their licence for breaking a DVSA rule they weren't aware of. Learner drivers, who have just passed their test and received their licence, are starting their driving life already burdened with penalty points after breaching regulations during their learning period.

Clearview Driving has issued a warning that learners could face fines and points even before passing their test. In a TikTok response to a driver's question, "Sorry might be a silly question but what happens if a learner speeds and the speed camera catches it? " and "Does the learner pay the fine? ", the road safety group explained: "Did you know that you can get points on your provisional driving licence? So when you're driving with family or with an instructor if you happen to go through a speed camera where you've gone over the speed limit or a traffic light where there is a camera, they are going to get a letter through the post asking who was driving at the time."

They added: "They will have to give your details so be careful when you're out and about."

Adrian Flux from the Learner Driver Hub also weighed in, stating: "Learner drivers are not exempt from speeding tickets and fines; they must follow the rules of the road. If a learner driver is caught speeding while under supervision, they will face a fine and points on their licence, not you."

"If the car they are using belongs to the supervisor, that person will get the letter. In this case, you can respond and nominate the learner as the person driving at the time of the offence.", reports Birmingham Live.

A TikTok user warned: "Yeah I didn't know this until my driving instructor told me when I went [through] an amber light before it just turned red lol I had just started learning though and that was the start of me."
