Drone Captures Severe Flooding in Central Nevada

A portion of north-central Nevada was under a flood warning on March 14 as rain and snowmelt threatened to overflow rivers, creeks, and streams, the National Weather Service (NWS) said.

Video shared by the Eureka County Sheriff’s Office shows flooding affecting the Third Street area on Tuesday, the department said.

“We treaded a lot of water today,” county sheriff-coroner Jesse J Watts wrote on Facebook. “Please understand, we are facing unprecedented and unpredictable water, which we don’t know if we’re going to be able to manage/mitigate. We are looking at all the facts and circumstances available to us from every local, state, and federal resource we have at our disposal to make these decisions. When we make the decisions we do, we DO NOT take them lightly. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we all get through this together.”

Watts thanked front line workers who “are sacrificing their sleep, their bodies, their time with family, and last but not least, their own homes.”

“Today, when we were discussing the Evacuation Warning, we had several members of the team in the room who would be affected by this warning, but they never wavered,” the sheriff said. “After we decided to put the Warning out, they went back out and worked just as hard as before, knowing they could be affected by this event, which none of us could have predicted or envisioned.” Credit: Eureka County Sheriff’s Office via Storyful
