Drop-in NHS vaccination bus will tour Glasgow for kids who missed jags

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde will run a drop-in vaccination bus for children who have missed their vaccinations.

The bus will cater to secondary-school-aged children who have not received their Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccination, and pre-school-aged children who have missed any of their routine childhood vaccines.

The bus will visit three locations on July 8, 11, and 12.

Parents and carers are encouraged to bring their children to the bus locations to ensure their protection is maximised ahead of the new nursery and school year commencing in August.

The MMR vaccine bus for secondary pupils will run on Monday, July 8 from 9am to 4pm at Shawlands Academy car park and on Thursday, July 11 from 9am to 4pm at The Glasgow Club car park (adjacent to Holyrood Secondary).

The routine pre-school vaccinations bus runs on Friday, July 12 at Morrisons Glasgow Fort from 9am to 4pm.

Measles, mumps, and rubella are highly infectious diseases that can cause serious medical complications.

The routine pre-school vaccinations the bus offers cover a range of diseases including pertussis (whooping cough), diphtheria, tetanus, polio, Haemophilus type b (Hib), hepatitis B, meningitis B, rotavirus, pneumococcal and Hib Men C.

The director of Public Health at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said: "It is understandable that, with illness and other events that happen due to everyday family life, routine vaccine appointments may have been missed or forgotten.

"That's why we are urging parents who are unsure if their child is vaccinated against any of the conditions above to contact their GP to find out.

"If they are not, they can attend one of the drop-ins and have the vaccine that day.

"It is also important to highlight that cases of whooping cough (pertussis) are appearing in higher numbers across the United Kingdom right now, making the need to maximise protection even more important."
