Drug dealers caught with 84 packages of cocaine and heroin in Gateshead street jailed

Two drugs dealers caught with cocaine, heroin and thousands of pounds in a car have been jailed.

Police were in the Cotswold Gardens area of Gateshead when they spotted a vehicle which came to a stop and spotted suspicious activity. Paul Wise, 32, was in the car and Brian Quinn, 30, then left a property and got into the passenger side of the vehicle, Newcastle Crown Court heard.

Officers then saw the pair pass an item between each other before moving in to arrest the pair, the court was told. A number of packages containing Class A drugs with a value of around £1,500 were found in the vehicle.

It included 38 packages of cocaine, 34 packages of crack cocaine and 12 packages of heroine, the court heard. On sentencing, Judge Tim Gittins said: "In addition just over £2,000 in cash was found in one of the car side panels and a tick list." He added: "The cash is indicative of the sort of sums that can be involved."

The court heard a phone was also found that had various contacts and messages linked to dealing. Quinn, of Broomfield Avenue, Wallsend, was sentenced to four years in prison after being found guilty of being concerned in the supply of Class A drug at trial.

Wise, of Bond Dene West, Gateshead, was jailed for two years and eight months after pleading guilty to being in possession with intent to supply.
