Drugs warning to One Direction duo

Zayn Malik has been ordered to pay a bond

One Direction stars Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson could face fines of thousands of pounds if they are caught using or promoting illegal drugs during a concert in the Philippines. The country's Bureau of Immigration said the pair had been asked to post bonds of more than £3,000 each which will be forfeited if they fall foul of the regulations. Both men featured in a video, widely reported on last year, in which they shown allegedly smoking cannabis and joking about drug use. The boyband, who first found fame on The X Factor, are performing in the country as part of their world tour. A bureau spokeswoman said: " The condition is intended to protect the public interest should the band members commit any violation during their stay in the Philippines". She said the band will be stopped from performing if they fail to post the bond before the concert. Earlier this month, their bandmate Liam Payne hit back at suggestions he is drinking heavily - saying he drinks no more than other people his age. Payne, 21, responded to suggestions made in an online article that he could be drinking a lot, describing the report as "out of order". One Direction are not the first band to run into trouble with officialdom in the Philippines - Almost 50 years ago The Beatles were forced to flee the country pursued by an angry mob after they were seen to have snubbed the country's then-first lady Imelda Marcos.
