A woman drunkenly rescued a seagull on a night out in Torquay, after the bird got stuck in a bus stop. Good Samaritan Sinead Murphy, 21, managed to free the entangled bird in the early hours of the morning on June 15.

The mum-of-one spotted the trapped bird while on the way home from a night out in Torquay, at 3am. It had its leg stuck between the bus stop's metal panels and was unable to escape, so Sinead leapt into action to free it before it flew off.

Sinead, a full time mum, said: "I just walked past it but then saw it out of the corner of my eye.

"I was pretty drunk, and I hate birds, so I was probably the worst person to be dealing with it at the time. I tried to help it, I'm glad I got there in the end!"

She added: "It's quite funny the one time I go out this happens, I'm glad I could help it - even in such an amusing way."

Seagulls may be considered a pest to many, but the birds have made their way into towns for a simple reason. Lack of food and loss of habitat has forced the birds further into seaside towns. If you find a seagull that is stuck or injured, you should contact the RSPB, RSPCA or a local vets.
