Dua Lipa Says Recent Breakup 'Ending in a Nice Way' Taught Her a 'Lot'
The pop superstar opened up to 'Rolling Stone' about what she learned from a recent relationship coming to an end
Dua Lipa has “New Rules” for when it comes to breakups.
The pop superstar, 28, opened up in Rolling Stone’s February cover story about a recent breakup and what she learned from the experience. In the interview published on Tuesday, the Grammy winner explained that ending a relationship without any animosity “taught [her] a lot.”
The “Houdini” artist shared that it was a “new” experience for her — and a pleasant one at that — to end a relationship on good terms. “I think I’ve had breakups in my life where I felt like the only kind of breakup you could have was when things just ended really badly,” Lipa said. “Things ending in a nice way was such a new thing … It taught me a lot.”
The singer-songwriter opened up about how the healthy breakup she went through inspired one of her favorite tracks on her upcoming album. Although the song title and its release date was kept under wraps, it’s said to be about feeling mature and in a healthy place as an ex moves on.
On the track, the “Levitating” artist reportedly sings. “I must have loved you more than I ever knew … I’m not mad/I’m not hurt/You got everything you deserve.”
“When you have a feeling like that one, you feel really grown because you’re like, ‘Oh, whoa, I’m such an evolved human being that I can see my ex move on and feel good about it,’” Lipa said of the sentiments explored on the new song.
Although the pop star did not specifically reveal who helped to inform the track off her forthcoming third studio album, she did confirm to Rolling Stone that she was single as of December 2023.

Most recently, the British star was linked to French filmmaker Romain Gavras. The two first sparked dating rumors in February 2023 when they were spotted leaving a party together. Then several months later in May, they officially made their red carpet debut as a couple at Cannes Film Festival.
The Future Nostalgia artist shared tidbits into their relationship on social media throughout last summer by posting photos from their vacation together and wishing the director, 42, a happy birthday on Instagram.
Upon the release of her latest single “Houdini” in November 2023, Lipa opened up in an interview with the Audacy's Check In podcast about how the track was inspired by the “fun parts” of being single.
“A lot of people wish their singledom away looking for someone else, but I think the whole point of spending that time alone is to really figure out what you need, and who you are in the silence and who you are without someone," the recording artist said. "That’s the best bit, and then, of course, just enjoying your girl time or whatever it is."
As of last week, the "Dance the Night" singer has sparked romance rumors with actor Callum Turner. TMZ was first to report the musician and the Boys in the Boat star, 33, were cozying up to one another at the mid-January premiere for his latest project Masters of Air when the outlet obtained a video of the two together.
The pair has been photographed stepping together for a date night in Los Angeles since then, according to the New York Post's Page Six.
While a release date has yet to be confirmed, Lipa will release her highly anticipated third album sometime this year.
