Dual carriageway lane blocked following rush hour collision

EMERGENCY services were called to a road traffic incident in Newport during rush hour.

The incident, believed to have happened on the Medina Way dual carriageway, northbound lane, at around 5pm, appears to have involved a saloon car, an eyewitness has told the County Press.

Police and ambulance crews attended.

The car had extensive front end damage to it.

Traffic was blocked on one of the lanes, but police allowed it through towards Cowes on the other.

A recovery vehicle has since taken the damaged car away.

It is not known at this stage how many other vehicles were involved.

UPDATE 6.13PM: 

Police and ambulances were called to a report of a road traffic collision shortly before 5pm.

The vehicles involved were a Vauxhall and a BMW.

No injuries were reported and the road was fully reopened shortly before 6pm.
