Jimmy Thelin has revealed that Duk hasn’t travelled with his Aberdeen squad because he has a medical issue, writes Scott Burns in Portugal.

The Cape Verde international, who last month went public and asked the Dons to sell him as he goes into the final year of his contract, has remained at home rather than travelling to Portugal. Social media had been rife that the striker hadn’t returned to pre-season training to force a move but that is not the case.

Thelin revealed: “Hopefully, Duk will be back out to the pre-season camp sooner rather than later to Portugal, if not he will be okay to come back when we return to Aberdeen. He has a medical issue. Our medical team is in constant contact with him and hopefully we can find a way for him to get healthy and back in with the group. He is still doing work alone but he can’t train full out just now.”

He is the second of Aberdeen’s strikers who have been unable to travel to Portugal. New signing Peter Ambrose has remained in Scotland because of visa reasons. Any transfer for Duk would be complicated because former club Benfica is due half of any future fee that Aberdeen get.
