Dumfries fire crews receive message of support from German colleagues during Euro 2024

Dumfries fire crews have been delighted with a Euros message of support from residents in host nation, Germany ... and a surprise photograph.

While Sunday’s game against Hungary saw them crash out of the competition, finishing bottom of their table, it didn’t reflect the effort and sheer determination put in by the Scotland side, supported by the incredible Tartan Army.

And, with staff at Dumfries and Galloway Scottish Fire and Rescue Service joining the nation in nursing disappointment at not moving further on in the competition, they also took comfort from a touching photographic gesture by fellow firefighters in Germany.

A spokesperson for SFRS Dumfries and Galloway said: “Our friends sent us this photo last night to show their support.

“The town of Dumfries is twinned with Gifhorn in Lower Saxony, Germany.

“We have a special relationship with the local fire service Freiwillige Feuerwehr Gifhorn, and there are visits planned later this summer to mark the 30th Anniversary of the twinning.”
