Dundee finally get Rangers game ON at Dens Park as pitch passes inspection
Rangers will travel to Dens Park to face Dundee on Wednesday night following a pitch inspection.
The Dark Blues have had issues with their home ground this campaign with FIVE call-offs to date including this same fixture with Philippe Clement's men twice. Last Wednesday's failed check was the latest postponement to hit the Scot Foam Stadium. But after examining the surface on Tuesday morning, the match WILL be played in the City of Discovery, with the contingency of McDiarmid Park not required.
A club statement read: "We are delighted to announce that the pitch has passed the pitch inspection and the match will take place at The Scot Foam Stadium at 8pm tomorrow as planned. No further pitch inspection is planned. We would like to thank St Johnstone for offering McDiarmid Park."
We told on Monday how the league body had earmarked St Johnstone's home ground in Perth as the back-up plan. Dundee have already been hit by a number of charges by SPFL chiefs following the issues with Dens Park.
Record Sport also revealed the SPFL will not announce the post-split fixture schedule until AFTER the midweek clash - despite the top six being confirmed on Saturday. Supporters of clubs up and down the league are desperate to find out when their final five games will be played and the venues.
However, they won't be published until the end of the week as the fixtures depend on final placings in the league. Dundee still have a chance of leapfrogging St Mirren into fifth spot. That would require Tony Docherty's men to beat Rangers by five goals but while a live opportunity exists, the fixture schedules are unable to release the final run games.
An SPFL source said: “The fixture announcement will be after all games have been played. The way the timetabling of the fixtures are set is dependant on the confirmed placings on the table.”
