Dundee's rearranged clash with Rangers will undergo a second pitch inspection at 3:30pm with a final decision yet to be made on whether the game will go ahead.

There are fears the dodgy surface at Dens could fall victim to the weather for a FIFTH time this season with heavy rain battering parts of Tayside. Gers stayed overnight in the City of Discovery but boss Philippe Clement was unhappy that the SPFL didn't decide yesterday whether the game would take place - slamming the "crazy situation".

Now, the Premiership showdown is at risk of a second postponement. The patched-up surface was deemed playable by ref Don Robertson following an 11am pitch inspection but it's been announced that a second examination will take place at 3:30pm.

A Dundee statement read: "Following this morning’s scheduled pitch inspection the match referee has decided that the pitch is currently playable. However, with rain forecast for later today both clubs and the league have agreed for a further pitch inspection to take place at 3:30pm today."

A Rangers spokesperson said: "Given the forecasted weather conditions in Dundee this afternoon, a further inspection is to be held at 3:30pm. Rangers has continued to insist that a final decision is made as early as possible for our traveling supporters, and fully understands the inconvenience this continues to cause."

With further downpours expected later today, it remains to be seen how the sodden pitch will hold up ahead of the 8pm kick-off. Motherwell lodged a complaint to the SPFL after Saturday's clash at Dens was somehow given the green light following two pitch inspections, despite the Fir Park club expressing concerns over player safety.

Ibrox boss Clement admitted yesterday that he would have been comfortable with the fixture being switched to a neutral ground for it to be played ahead of this weekend's final games before the split. But Dark Blues managing director John Nelms insists the only contingency plan would be to postpone the match until April 16 or 17.
