“Dune: Part Two” premiere features cyborg Zendaya, stumbling stars, and a guy vacuuming sand

Arrakis came to London for the event, sans-Shai-Hulud.

Few movies are sandier than Dune: Part Two, so it’s only fitting that the sci-fi sequel’s premiere was as sandy as they come.

At the London premiere of Denis Villeneuve’s epic on Thursday, the star-studded cast assembled at a red carpet that was partially covered by a desert display, which made for some magnificent photo ops and caused Zendaya to trip at one point.

The unusual flooring at the event evoked the primary setting of the Dune series: the desert planet Arrakis, home of the Fremen and a valuable hallucinogenic-slash-navigation-tool known as spice.

Fortunately, the dunes at the premiere weren’t quite large enough to harbor the Shai-Hulud, the gargantuan worms that populate the planet. However, the sand seemed to be spreading beyond its intended area at the event, so a staffer arrived with a vacuum cleaner to round up stray particles.

Everyone from Timothée Chalamet and Florence Pugh to Stellan Skarsgård and Rebecca Ferguson looked predictably glamorous on the carpet, but it’s Zendaya who stole the show. The Euphoria star wore a robotic suit of armor that resembled the central android from Fritz Lang’s Metropolis, C3PO from Star Wars, and Beyoncé’s futuristic aesthetic from her 2022 album Renaissance. Fans identified the outfit as a piece from Mugler’s Fall 1995 couture collection.

Dune: Part Two received rave first reactions from members of the media, including EW’s Devan Coggan, who wrote, “Dune 2 is pretty spectacular. I will never get tired of how Villeneuve makes crazy spaceships and space worms feel real and tactile. Can't wait to see it again on an absolutely ginormous screen.”

Dune: Part Two hits theaters March 1.
