Eleven Durie’s Boxing Gym fighters took part in a 14-bout ‘home show’ at Rivals Gym in Wishaw earlier this month.

Head coach Archie Durie threw the show together in three and a half weeks, but declared the evening a major success.

Young Cruz Tweedlie, 6, started the evening with an exhibition bout against Zaid Allah to give them a taste of boxing in front of a crowd.

In the first of the matches, Rob Roy’s Gregor Dick scored a points win over Cruz Burns from Newarthill Boxing Club.

Castlemilk lad Sion O’Donnell, 12, made his debut in a 40kg contest against Doghouse Gym’s Zak Nicholson, with the Stirling fighter getting a unanimous decision against the Durie’s boxer.

Next in for Durie’s was Lesmahagow’s AJ Allison, 12, in a 54kg bout against Bravehearts’ Bartek Palubicki, with the referee stopping the contest in the first round, with Palubicki well on top.

Cambuslang boxer Adam Khan, 12, lost by unanimous decision against Zane McColl of Kilsyth Boxing Club in a 46kg contest.

Castlemilk girl Kaylah Lynch, 13, took part in a 47kg exhibition match against Blossom Weir of Doonhamers BC in Dumfries, with both showing off their skills.

Another unanimous decision went against Cambuslang 12-year-old Danyal Khan, who was up against a much taller opponent in Ryley Baird of Edinburgh club Clovestone BC.

Golden Gloves champion Lucas Ewan won by split decision against Yehor Tsoma in a 56kg bout.

Golden Gloves winner Mohammed Dean Khan was next up, with the Cambuslang 11-year-old showing his skills to beat Craigneuk boxer Tyler Richardson by unanimous decision.

Nathan Rodden lost his bout by unanimous decision against Linkstown boxer Joe Galloway, ahead of an interval, in which auction prizes raised £1430 for the club, including a signed, cased Josh Taylor glove and Celtic and Rangers signed shirts.

Head coach Archie Durie reckons judges got it wrong when they gave a decision to Teo McInally of Clovestone BC against Cambuslang 13-year-old Ross McNeil in their 50kg bout.

Lawrie Marshall beat Andrianos Apostolou of Glasgow City in their 80kg bout, and Rob Roy’s Jean Claude Kasula beat Jon Torkman of Glasgow City on points.

Durie’s Joe McClue took his fight to Hayden Fairhurst of Bravehearts BC, but the away boxer got the split decision.

Durie’s prosthetic-legged fighter from Douglas, Stevie Craig, was top of the bill against Abdul Muqeet of Glasgow City in a 80kg bout, and won by unanimous decision, much to the delight of the home crowd.

Head coach Archie Durie said: “From a show that nearly didn’t go ahead, to a fantastic night had by all, the club made the best money ever during the auction.

“If I didn’t have good people round about me helping to build it together it never would have happened.

“Big thanks to Robert Clarke, my coaches Jamie Durie, Abie Tweedlie and his wife Kim, were amazing on the night.

“So was my daughter-in-law Jennifer Aitken and Rhea Sangster.

“I would also like to thank Scott ‘Title Taker’ Allan for accommodating our club at his Rivals Gym at such short notice – and thanks to his mum Caroline for helping with admin.

“There was also loads of things handed in for raffles from our Durie’s crowd, and even though it wasn’t in Rutherglen this time, what a night our 35th show was!”
