The DVSA has issued an 'important' reminder of a little-known Highway Code rule to UK motorists as the weather starts to turn warmer and brighter. Many motorists will experience moments of dazzling as they drive - typically when the clouds part or the sun starts to set.

But this could be dangerous as it can cause you to lose control of your vehicle - so it's important that you know what to do in such a situation. Highway Code rules 92, 93 and 94 cover motoring vision, but rule 93 is the part of the code which instructs on what to do when 'dazzled'.

Posting on X ahead of the warmer weather, the DVSA said: "It's important to remember Rule 93 of The Highway Code."

If you become dazzled while driving, it is important that you slow down or stop entirely depending on the severity of the light. The Code, says: "Slow down, and if necessary stop, if you are dazzled by bright sunlight." Rule 92 says that people should be able to read a number plate from 20 metres before getting behind the wheel, so if you need glasses to do this, you should pop them on before setting off.

The MEN reports that Rule 94 of the Highway Code is also worth remembering with the sun starting to shine through. That's because you could be pulled over for wearing sunglasses, especially if they restrict your vision.

The Code reads: "At night or in poor visibility, do not use tinted glasses, lenses or visors if they restrict your vision."
