A hand injury won’t keep Dylan Dreyer from playing golf!

The NBC News meteorologist, 42, tells PEOPLE that she’s powering through the 35th Annual American Century Championship (ACC) presented by American Century this weekend despite spraining her thumb “a few weeks ago.”

"I've been babying it,” she says. “I've been wearing a splint.”

She added that she was still feeling some pain from the injury during practice on Wednesday, July 10, saying, “It hurts right now.”

However, Dreyer tells PEOPLE that nothing will keep her out of the tournament, which raises money for local and national charities.

"I can play through the pain, and we'll just see,” she says. “Maybe it'll help my game. Who knows? I am not missing this week for anything.”

The TV correspondent could be seen practicing her swings on the golf course for the ACC Tournament in an Instagram video posted on Wednesday, July 10. She also shared a group photo with others on the course, though her splint could not be seen in the photo or video.

Dreyer appeared to have been injured some time between traveling to London, England, and returning back to the states, as her left hand seemed fine in a June 23 Instagram post, in which she could be seen attending the Royal Ascot event.

However, in a June 25 Instagram video teasing a new Off the Rails episode on Today Show radio, she could be seen sporting a black hand brace on her left wrist, which also covered her thumb. She did not share what caused her injury.

Despite nursing the injury, she noted to PEOPLE that she was grateful to represent the women in the ACC Tournament because “there aren't a lot of women” that often volunteer to play.

“It's awesome to be one of the women here. I've played this a couple times, very pregnant. I think I got some sympathy points that way,” she joked. “But it's just fun for other women who are here as spectators and their kids, boys and girls alike, to see women out here because it's a very intimidating environment.”

“These guys can play golf. They're star athletes, world-famous athletes, and I'm just kind of here,” she continued. “Even if you're not the best at something, put your heart and soul into it, have fun doing it… I'm here because it's fun and I've made friends along the way.”

The American Century Championship is scheduled to begin on Friday, July 12 and run through Sunday, July 14.
