The woman offering comfort to Eamonn Holmes amid his marital breakdown has reportedly told her circle she's committed for "the long haul."

Katie Alexander, 42, a relationship counsellor, has been seen accompanying the GB News presenter on various excursions over the past year, and has also been spotted at his home according to reports in the Mirror.

Sources suggest she is hopeful their blossoming friendship might evolve into a more permanent bond in the near future. Recently, she has been a pillar of support for Eamonn during his separation from Ruth, although her friends are keen to clarify their closeness developed only after his marriage had ended.

A source close to Katie remarked: "She is helping Eamonn through the tough times but doesn't want to be seen as a marriage wrecker. The friendship has grown in recent months but Eamonn's marriage has been over for some time. She wants to help Eamonn with his situation and their friendship has grown over a period of time. She feels she will be close to him for a long period and is in this for the long haul."

It was revealed in May that Eamonn and Ruth have decided to part ways after 14 years of marriage and are proceeding with a divorce. Signs of strain had been evident in their relationship, and they hadn't been captured in a photo together for two years.

Reports suggest former This Morning presenter Eamonn moved out of the marital home in Surrey last month after his wife Ruth Langsford discovered messages between him and an unidentified woman on a laptop.

Eamonn first encountered Katie on Twitter in 2015, when she responded to one of his posts, sparking a conversation. Last October, he attended a charity fundraising event in Yorkshire, near Katie's residence, and became a patron. The counsellor has been employed by the charity as a therapist.

In addition to his marital troubles, Eamonn has been struggling with mobility issues, suffering from severe back pain for nearly two years. In January, the presenter expressed concern he might never be able to walk unaided again, describing it as a "harsh reality."

Discussing his difficulties, he said: "It's as if somebody up there is playing with my life. In the past year I've had an operation on my back which went wrong and has confined me to a wheelchair. I've fallen and broken my shoulder. Honestly you could not make it up." He added: "I have tried every treatment, but you go, 'Maybe I'll never get out of it,' which is a harsh reality to face."

Eamonn and Ruth were introduced by mutual friends in 1997 and dated for over a decade before Eamonn proposed and they tied the knot in 2010.
