Eamonn Holmes has candidly shared his feelings about his split from Ruth Langsford, confessing: "I'm not OK. This is not a good time at all." Speaking to the Mirror at the TRIC Awards, where he was up for Best News Presenter and Best News Broadcast, Eamonn reflected on their 14-year marriage, saying: "It's too early to say but I hope we can still be friends."

Battling severe back pain that necessitated a state-of-the-art wheelchair at the event, Eamonn also revealed his sense of mortality, noting his father passed away at 65 from a heart attack in 1991. Now 64, Eamonn has faced several health challenges before he and Ruth announced their separation last month.

Despite considering skipping the awards due to intense pain, Eamonn attended thanks to his new wheelchair equipped with various features. "I wasn't going to come, but I've got this new chair with all these gadgets," he remarked.

GB News Breakfast took home the award for Best News programme, and Eamonn addressed the audience about his health struggles: "I had an operation a year and a half ago, and two things went wrong so I have two things in my back I don't want. So I'll happily accept this.", reports the Mirror.

Before the ceremony, he had previously expressed his struggle with debilitating back pain. "I get very resentful that I'm not the way I used to be but I get on with it," he shared. I work hard at trying to walk. It's very hard to get through a normal day but I have help from people around me."

He had earlier commended Ruth for her unwavering support. Last month, they announced in a statement: "Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing." Eamonn had previously stated: "We'd just like to thank people for your support for Ruth and I over the last few days as to the news of our separation. Your support for both of us is very much appreciated."

Christine McGuinness was spotted supporting Eamonn at the award ceremony, holding his hand and wrapping an arm around his shoulder as they posed for the camera. Eamonn looked dapper in a black suit, white shirt and blue tie.

He also took to Instagram to confirm his attendance at the event, sharing a picture from inside the opulent venue. He discreetly entered the venue where he sat awaiting his meal. "Whatever the results, a nice lunch awaits #Tricawards," he captioned the photo from his table.

It emerged following comments from sources close to Eamonn who expressed uncertainty over his ability to attend due to his back problems. They mentioned that he's inclined to make an effort to be there, recalling fond memories of past ceremonies where he's been a recipient of accolades and enjoyed catch-ups with pals in the television sector. "He would like to go but it is in the balance, a lot will depend on how he feels on the day," the insider revealed to The Mirror.
