Eamonn Holmes has admitted "I'm not okay" in the wake of his split from Ruth Langsford - and has spoken candidly about his health issues, saying he feels as though he is on "borrowed time".

The broadcaster was nominated for Best News Presenter, and Best News Broadcast, at the TRIC Awards last night (Tues) - and attended the ceremony in a state-of-the-art wheelchair, looking rather fragile amid his ongoing battle with chronic back pain.

And he opened up for the first time about his split from wife of 14 years, Ruth Langsford, after the pair announced last month that they had decided to go their separate ways.

Speaking to The Mirror at the event, Eamonn confessed: "I'm not OK. This is not a good time at all."

He went on to express his wish that he and Ruth could remain on good terms, saying: "It's too early to say but I hope we can still be friends."

Eamonn also revealed he nearly had not made it to the awards show altogether, after experiencing intense pain. His own father passed away at 65 of a heart attack in 1991 - leaving Eamonn, now 64, feeling as though he is living on "borrowed time" due to his own recent health struggles.

After winning the award for Best New Programme, for GB News Breakfast, Eamonn told the Mirror: "I wasn't going to come, but I've got this new chair with all these gadgets.

"I had an operation a year and a half ago, and two things went wrong, so I have two things in my back I don't want. So I'll happily accept this."

Before the ceremony, he had previously expressed his struggle with debilitating back pain.

He said: "I get very resentful that I'm not the way I used to be, but I get on with it. I work hard at trying to walk. It's very hard to get through a normal day, but I have help from people around me."

He had also previously commended Ruth for her unwavering support. Last month, they announced in a statement: "Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing."

And after sharing the news, Eamonn had stated: "We'd just like to thank people for your support for Ruth and I over the last few days as to the news of our separation. Your support for both of us is very much appreciated."

Christine McGuinness was spotted supporting Eamonn at the TRIC awards ceremony, holding his hand and wrapping an arm around his shoulder as they posed for the camera. Eamonn looked dapper in a black suit, white shirt, and blue tie.

Sources close to Eamonn had also previously expressed uncertainty about his ability to attend the awards ceremony due to his back problems. They mentioned that he would probably attempt to be there, recalling fond memories of past ceremonies where he received accolades and enjoyed catching up with colleagues.

"He would like to go but it is in the balance, a lot will depend on how he feels on the day," the source disclosed to The Mirror.
