East 17 singer Brian Harvey has been released under investigation, following reports he threatened to harm himself.

Harvey was taken into custody by the police for allegedly sending malicious tweets. The singer had also recently posted a series of ‘worrying’ videos online in which he discussed the subject of mental health.

Police were called to his address in Walthamstow on Thursday after they were given reason to believe the singer may harm himself.

After carrying out a welfare check, Harvey was deemed to be fully fit with no injuries, and was then arrested on suspicion of sending malicious communications.

“At approximately 1809hrs on Thursday, March 21 [Metropolitan] Police were alerted to a man threatening to take his own life,” a statement from Scotland Yard explained. “Officers subsequently attended an address in Walthamstow to complete a welfare check.

“The man arrested has been taken to hospital for a mental health care assessment. There are no reported injuries.”

The singer was released under investigation on Friday.

In the now deleted videos, Harvey also called on Prime Minister Theresa May to help out those who are struggling.

“All these people who are out there with mental health problems, I know how you feel,” he said. “Theresa May, if you are watching you need to talk to me. I can sit down and have a normal conversation.

“You sort this out right, sort it out and help those people with mental health problems.”

Just three hours after she took to Twitter late on 21 March to voice her concerns over his well being, soap star and Harvey’s ex-girlfriend Danniella Westbrook confirmed that he had been hospitalised.

Describing herself as heartbroken, Westbrook – who dated him from 1991 to 1995 – sent words of encouragement to Harvey, writing: “I wish you better B, please get well and know your very very loved.

“You are so talented and have a [heart] of gold. Sending you all my prayers and love.”
