East Kilbride boss gifts 'No.1 fan' Lowland League winners' medals as family hail incredible gesture

A young East Kilbride fan got a huge surprise on Saturday when boss Mick Kennedy gave her his Lowland League winners’ medal.

Three-year-old Charlotte Sullivan has followed the team all season with dad Steven, who is Kilby’s supporters’ club convenor, and she was left stunned when Kennedy gifted his ‘number one fan’ the prize at the K-Park trophy presentation.

The EK gaffer explained: “Charlotte is a special wee girl from a special family.

“They dedicate so much of their time to the club, they are lovely people.

“They are so enthusiastic for the club and days like Saturday make it all worthwhile for them.

“Charlotte is my number one fan, so she’s delighted.

“Everywhere I have been I have given my medal away. When I was at Darvel I gave it to one of the committee members’ mum, who had supported the club since she was a wee girl.

“I don’t think I have kept any medal I have won.

“I always try to give my medals to someone who has a greater attachment to a club than myself.”

Charlotte’s dad Steven said: “It was an incredible moment. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a tear in my eye.

“She was shocked at first, and didn't quite realise what it was at first until I told her, but then ran off to show her mum and sisters, and hasn’t let it leave her side since.

“The bond she and Mick have is unbelievable and she absolutely adores him, just as much as we do.

"That's the kind of person Mick is."
