An East London crack dealer drove a Range Rover the wrong way around the roundabout then left his flip flops by the abandoned car. Michael Katindi, 34, of Foulden Road, Stoke Newington, was jailed for seven years and banned from driving for over four years at Norwich Crown Court on July 1 for Class A drug dealing offences and dangerous driving after failing to stop for police.

On May 11 2022, Norfolk Constabulary officers from the automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) team flagged a grey Range Rover being driven by Katindi. They asked him to pull over just before 12:00pm, but he failed to stop and fled the scene going 'well in excess' of the 30mph speed limit. He then mounted a kerb and narrowly avoided a crash going the wrong way around the roundabout.

Officers halted the chase due to safety concerns, but Katindi's four-by-four was found abandoned a short while later, with his flip flops nearby. Police continued the hunt on foot and gound Katindi hiding in a nearby alleyway with no shoes on. CCTV later showed the shoeless dealer throwing a package of crack cocaine into a garden while running from the car.

Katindi was arrested and taken for questioning before being released on bail and later charged. Sgt Tim Russell of Norfolk Police’s Moonshot team, said: “Katindi made concerted efforts to evade police attention, driving dangerously in a built-up area. The live time enquiries, leading to the discovery of the Class A drugs, show the efforts officers put in to tackle drug dealing in Norfolk."
