EastEnders airs alarming twist in Alfie Moon cancer storyline

Spoilers for EastEnders follow.

EastEnders tonight continued its storyline surrounding Alfie Moon and prostate cancer, but they introduced a new twist to the plot.

Alfie previously confided in Phil Mitchell that he could have prostate cancer. In tonight's episode (September 11), his ex, Kat, found out the truth.

When Kat confronted Phil about what had previously happened with Alfie and Tommy, Phil mistakingly thought Kat was talking about Alfie's cancer scare and revealed the news – leaving Kat shocked. Phil explained that Alfie is awaiting the results of a new round of tests.

Kat later found Alfie at the Queen Vic and confronted him about not telling her: "When were you going to tell me? When all your hair is falling out?" Kat told Alfie that she would be there for him.

Alfie admitted that he'd been thinking about what Lola went through. He explained that he wasn't as tough as Lola and didn't want to put his kids through that pain. Kat told him that he would get through it, with Phil and Kat then taking a reluctant Alfie to his appointment.

Alfie returned to the waiting room and tearfully revealed to them: "I'm all clear."

Back at the Vic, they celebrated the good news, with Kat getting Alfie to tell his friend Linda the good news. However, with Alfie reluctant to get too excited, could he be hiding something from his friends?

Meanwhile, back at their house, Kat berated Phil for not telling her the truth about Alfie. Phil tried to apologise and said he'd rearrange their delayed appointments to look at wedding venues, but Kat told him not to bother as she wasn't sure she even wanted to marry him anymore...
