EastEnders airs major Kathy change in Nish storyline

EastEnders spoilers follow from Wednesday's episode (May 29), which is available now on BBC iPlayer but hasn't yet aired on BBC One.

EastEnders' Bridge Street Café is changing hands again as part of Nish Panesar's big return storyline.

Nish made the decision to sell up in Wednesday's episode after being rejected by most of his family.

The Panesars are fiercely divided after Nish returned to Walford and revealed that he's dying from a serious heart condition.

Doctors have confirmed that Nish's diagnosis is genuine, but most of his family members are adamant that this changes nothing.

In Wednesday's episode, Nish's ex-wife Suki arranged for the Panesars to vote on whether Nish should be allowed back into their lives.

Suki, Vinny and Eve all voted against Nish, while Priya, Avani and Nugget supported the scheming villain. Ravi ultimately cast the deciding vote against his father, which prevented Nish from reconciling with his family.

Clearly rattled by the rejection, Nish contacted Kathy Beale and promised to sell the café back to her for just £1. Kathy previously sold the business to Nish in December last year after her husband Rocky committed arson in the building.

Although sceptical over Nish's uncharacteristic generosity, Kathy went ahead with the unexpected agreement. Nish promised to make it official by drawing up paperwork that day.

The £1 sale went down badly with Nish's family, as Suki bitterly accused him of cheating their children out of their inheritance.

Nish made no apologies and refused to stop there, warning the Panesars that the rest of his money and business portfolio will be left to the temple.

He said: "I meant what I said earlier. I want your forgiveness – the love of my family – and you all threw it back in my face. You won't even let me see my own grandchildren.

"I've apologised for my past, but I got your reply loud and clear. So I've rewritten my will. Everything I own will now go to the gurdwara and you get nothing.

"If you don't want anything to do with me, well now you've got your wish."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
