EastEnders Fans In Uproar Following Dot Cotton’s SACKING From Launderette

EastEnders fans up and down the country were in bits last night, as it was revealed that legendary character Dot Cotton was to be sacked from her job at the launderette.

The iconic soap figure was fired following her re-interview for her current role.

The storyline has seen the owner of the shop, Mr Papadopolous Jnr, bring in an external agency to run things, and upgrade it to offer dry cleaning services, which Dot doesn’t know how to do.

Viewers watched on Thursday as Dot was interviewed by a hapless but well-meaning official from the HR department – but had to break the news to her on Friday that she’d been unsuccessful – despite her ability to get a raspberry stain out of a pair of slacks.

Dot revealed on Thursday that she’d worked in the launderette for over 30 years – alongside former characters Pauline Fowler and Ethel Skinner.

The launderette has been a hotbed of gossip and drama for the residents of Albert Square – and even a death. Dot’s own grandson Ashley died there after his bike crashed through the launderette window.

The Laundrette contains 6 Washing Machines, 2 Tumble Dryers and 1 Spin Dryer, with the cost of washing your clothes (in 2010) coming in at £9.

Perhaps that’s what led to its demise?

The controversial storyline had fans in bits – Chetan on Facebook said: “It’s not fair on dot losing her job. Dot did a fantastic job at the laundrette. If Pauline fowler was still alive she would have given her a few words. Not Dot.”

Gary Williams was similarly displeased, calling for sackings at the BBC:
“How dare treat our Dot like that, she’s the queen of EastEnders , have some RESPECT. Her job stays or [we should] get rid of the new producer.”

It’s just one of many controversial new moves the new production team have introduced, including a wave of cast sackings.

All we’ll say for now is #SAVEDOT.
