EastEnders fans spot 3 key points that already 'prove' Ben Mitchell's exit was a mistake

EastEnders' Ben Mitchell made an abrupt exit from Walford last month as actor Max Bowden left the BBC One soap. The mechanic was arrested for credit card fraud following his trip to America last summer to try and find Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold) alternative cancer treatment.

But in March, his past caught up with him while celebrating husband Callum's (Tony Clay) birthday in The Queen Vic as the police paid Ben a visit and arrested him on the spot. At first the bad boy denied the criminal charges, but after a heart-to-heart with Callum, where the copper promised he'd be waiting for Ben once he completed his sentence, Ben accepted his fate.

Ben was extradited to America and Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) recently confirmed his eldest son has been given six years in prison to be served in the States. But some EastEnders fans have accused Ben's exit of being unnecessary as the character is now missing in key storylines.

As fans will know, Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) received a shock this week after Nadine (Jazzy Phoenix) contacted him out of the blue. The escort returned to Albert Square pregnant and told Jay he is the father of her unborn baby leaving him overwhelmed and his step-daughter Lexi (Isabella Brown) devastated.

Meanwhile, Keanu Taylor's (Danny Walters) murder plot has continued with Dean Wicks (Matt Di Angelo) being charged with his murder as The Six framed him. Ben hated Keanu after he cheated on his sister Louise Mitchell (Tilly Keeper) with his step-mum Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), but it's unknown what Ben thinks of his enemy's death.

Also, little is known of how Callum is coping without Ben. And now there's a new baby thrown into their family dynamic, what's Ben's views on Jay's baby news? The unanswered questions have left EastEnders fans taking to social media to criticise Ben's sudden exit.

On X, one person wrote: "Missing Ben's reaction to things, Keanu's death? Pound shop Lola pregnancy? We've been robbed of so much snark". A second exclaimed: "Shame we’ll never see Ben’s reaction to Jay becoming a dad."

A third chimed in with: "Good to see some Jay Callum & Lexi domestic scenes. The first since Ben got sent down. I wonder how Callum really feels though about Ben's 6 year sentence? #EastEnders."

"You can feel Ben's absence in the Jay storyline #EastEnders", added another. While another stated: "Is this the best the writers can come up [with]? She must have had sex with others at the time. And why wait this long to tell him? Ben shouldn't have been written out and the Linda/Dean prison storyline was daft too. #Eastenders is losing the plot."

EastEnders airs Monday - Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One.
