The BBC soap aired horrific scenes tonight.
Stalker Theo Hawthorne’s (William Ellis) life hangs in the balance on EastEnders after some brutal scenes that featured a shocking throwback to the soap's past.
Theo has been making Stacey Slater’s (Lacey Turner) life hell for months with his stalking campaign, yet she was denied the Stalking Protection Order that could have stopped him in his tracks.
Tonight, the situation came to a horrifying head. When Theo broke in at the Slaters’ and tried to rape Stacey, her cousin Freddie (Bobby Brazier) arrived and attacked him.
Freddie had just confronted his own father Graham Foster (Alex McSweeney), who raped Freddie’s mother Little Mo (Kacey Ainsworth). So seeing another man inflicting an evil act on a woman sent Freddie spiralling.
Freddie and Theo threw some punches, and when Theo went after Stacey again, Freddie grabbed an iron and hit him with it, before dropping the weapon and hitting the older man again and again.
It was a jaw-dropping parallel to the moment Freddie's mum used the very same appliance to attack her abusive husband Trevor Morgan (Alex Ferns) in self-defence, all the way back in 2001.
Tonight's episode was written by seasoned EastEnders writer Simon Ashdown, who also penned the famous Little Mo scene.
Now, nearly 21 years later, we’re left fearing that Freddie has just become a murderer. We can’t tell you what happens next, but with Theo’s fate up in the air, Freddie’s future is obviously at serious risk.
Award-winning duo Turner and Brazier give powerhouse performances in tomorrow’s instalment of EastEnders, and you'll be on the edge of your seat throughout.
Turner has been impressing viewers with her work for years, and she continues to shine in this distressing storyline. Brazier’s thoughtful portrayal, as Freddie comes to terms with his parentage, earned him the Rising Star award at the National Television Awards 2023.
Brazier is currently appearing in BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, so could Freddie be languishing behind bars while the actor takes on that ballroom?
Meanwhile, Theo is high on the list of the soap’s potential murder victims for Christmas Day. A mystery male character will be found dead on the floor of The Queen Vic pub — and Stacey is among those present at the time.
Is Theo destined to come to a grisly end, one way or another? Theo certainly has a shelf life; so whether he dies now, at Christmas, or is sent to prison alive and kicking, we don’t expect Theo to stick around Walford for long.
But you’ll just have to tune in to find out what happens next.
