EastEnders' Jay Brown faces backlash over Ben discovery

EastEnders spoilers follow.

Jay Brown has faced a backlash over Ben Mitchell's discovery in EastEnders.

Earlier this week, Ben was irate when he discovered that Jay has been using ketamine while he was supposed to be taking care of step-daughter Lexi.

Jay has been on a downward spiral for weeks, with Callum even arranging for him to be arrested once he realised Jay had been using drugs during his nightly visits to sex worker Nadine.

In Thursday's (October 19) episode, Ben gave Jay an ultimatum that he would have to go off the drugs cold turkey or move out.

While Jay promised Ben he'd do better, he was soon tested when Nadine showed up once again. Jay tried to let Nadine down over their tryst the previous night without realising Ben was listening.

Ben bluntly asked: "You paid her for sex?"

Callum tried to intervene as the argument got heated, with Ben making a snide remark about Jay "renting a Lola".

"I can't deal with all the lies anymore," Ben seethed. "[I'm] someone who's made enough mistakes to last a lifetime. I don't want you doing the same."

Jay suggested that Ben was simply "jealous" because "someone else is getting attention". Ben could barely keep his composure as he questioned whether Jay was really blaming him?

"I am looking out for Lexi. I am trying to protect my marriage," Ben said.

He insisted he couldn't have Lexi around drugs and sex work so he wanted Jay out of No.29B. Jay pleaded with Ben that he promised Lola he'd care for Lexi, but Ben would not be swayed.

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
