EastEnders star Balvinder Sopal praises show's Christmas death story
EastEnders spoilers follow
Balvinder Sopal has praised EastEnders for putting "powerful women at the forefront of storytelling" in its Christmas mystery storyline.
The soap has spent the year building up to a massive revelation at Christmas, where viewers will finally find out the identity of the dead body seen in The Vic in a flash-forward sequence.
Six of the soap's leading female characters — Suki Panesar, Kathy Beale, Sharon Watts, Denise Fox, Stacey Slater and Linda Carter — were all shown in the flashforward trying to figure out the mystery of the Christmas death.
The soap may have already started setting the stage for the Christmas whodunit by having Denise join forces with Suki to catch out Ravi Gulati for killing Ranveer earlier in the year.

Ahead of a big few months for the soap, Suki Panesar actress Balvinder Sopal praised the soap's producers for making a female-led story the heart of its Christmas cliffhanger.
"The Suki and Denise connection is really interesting, and I've loved working with Diane Parish — she is brilliant and one of the matriarchs of the show. She's iconic," Balvinder said.
"The fact that EastEnders is matching Suki up with other members of the Walford community as part of 'The Six' is absolutely brilliant, and the fact they are all women is amazing. It bumps up that sisterhood feeling, and it puts powerful women at the forefront of storytelling about connection, friendship and love.
"I think it's really important to see strong bonds between these women where they can support and help each other through difficult times."
Suki's husband Nish Panesar has emerged as a leading suspect to turn up dead at Christmas since he continues manipulating his family and has even banned Suki from turning Ravi over to the police.
Viewers know that the dead man will wear a distinctive pair of cuff links that once belonged to Nish. But is Nish actually going to get his comeuppance, or is someone else doomed this Christmas?
EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
