EastEnders star Brian Conley tipped to leave role as Rocky Cotton

EastEnders spoilers follow.

Brian Conley is set to leave his role in EastEnders as Tom 'Rocky' Cotton.

The Sun reported on Monday (September 11) that Conley's exit came about as something of a surprise and now the writing teams are working on ways to remove his character, potentially as part of its Christmas whodunit storyline.

A spokesperson for EastEnders told Digital Spy: "There are many rumours and theories circulating about whose body is under the Christmas tree but, to not spoil the drama for the audience, we will not be commenting on any speculation.”

The soap is gearing up for a huge Christmas season, as the soap finally reveals the identity of the male corpse found in the Vic by six of the show's leading ladies in a flashforward scene.

Conley originally joined EastEnders in 2021 for a bombshell storyline where Rocky teamed up with scheming niece Dotty Cotton to try to swindle Sonia Fowler out of her savings by convincing her he was her long-lost father.

Rocky eventually thought better of the scheme when he started to have genuine affection for Sonia and they've since built a friendship.

More recently, Rocky has married Kathy Beale, yet it's been anything but smooth sailing for the newlyweds because his ex-wife Jo Cotton continued trying to break them up.

The couple were also recently forced out of their home when Kathy's son Ian Beale returned with his estranged wife Cindy to take back ownership of his property and businesses.

Conley actually already has another acting gig lined up, as he will be leading the cast of the Cinderella panto at the Milton Keynes Theatre this festive season.

Aside from his work in EastEnders, Conley is well known for appearing in I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! and competing in the fifteenth series of Strictly Come Dancing.

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
