The London Marathon is more than just a lot of people running a long way, as there are countless great causes being honoured and beautiful stories being told over the 26-and-a-bit miles of endurance.

One such touching tale comes via none other than EastEnders' Adam Woodyatt – aka Ian Beale – who was taking part in the London Marathon alongside his son Sam.

Against the odds, Sam completed the gruelling run after having been in a serious accident just a few months ago – after which he had to regain his mobility.

Adam explained more to PA about what happened.

"He got hit by a car back in September. The London Air Ambulance came out to him and put him in an induced coma for two days, [before] a five-hour op to rebuild his pelvis.

"He was in a wheelchair for eight weeks had to learn to walk again which he did really quickly, then he had to run which he did really really quickly, then he went back to doing his gymnastics and all his tumbling.

"It has been pretty miraculous and then he goes and runs this in four hours and 24 minutes. It was brilliant. I haven't seen him yet I'm trying to find him, he's been texting saying 'where are you?'"

Adam finished the race a few hours after Sam, with his time being confirmed as seven hours and four minutes.

According to The Mirror, the pair raised around £6,500 combined for the Air Ambulance Service, in recognition of their help after Sam was struck by the car.

"I knew we would complete it. The original plan was we were going to walk it, my son was going to run it, I was going to walk it with my mate, but training went really well and we were going to run," Woodyatt said.

"Unfortunately his knee went around 11 miles and he nearly quit around Limehouse but he didn't, he kept going, just had to go a lot slower. The most important thing is we've finished."

Of course, many other well-known faces were seen along the course of the Marathon, and you can see them in our gallery.
