EastEnders star Molly Rainford addresses powerful Knight family scenes

EastEnders' Molly Rainford has expressed her gratitude for the Knight family's latest storyline.

In last week's scenes airing on BBC One, an extended episode saw George Knight discovering that his adoptive father Eddie was actually standing trial for the racially aggravated murder of his biological father — Henry Kofi Asare.

Gina and Anna (played by Rainford) listened in on the revelation, which led to the sisters discussing their experiences growing up mixed-raced.

Posting a lengthy message on Instagram yesterday (February 20), actress Rainford revealed to her followers: "I've been reflecting a lot since last week's episodes on just how special it was for me to be able to tell that story. To represent the truth that so many people feel - including myself.

"Being mixed-raced is part of my identity, a part that I'm so proud of, but is also a part of myself that can be confusing sometimes. But the fact that I can play a role in a family that reflects my own, means the world. I'm learning so much throughout this storyline that I didn't know, about families, identity, colourism.

"About farming - a story that has been written so tenderly and @colinrsalmon has played so gracefully. Eddie (Chris Fairbank) and Gloria (Elizabeth Counsell) have brought such a dynamic to our family. I promise they are actually lovely people in real life."

The Strictly Come Dancing 2022 contestant continued by waxing lyrical about her co-stars; "I feel like as well as being in this new giant @bbceastenders family, I've absolutely gained a family in the Knights - and we're almost a year on!

"The lovely @hatdorable who I now call my 'Fairy stepmother' and @michelledcollins I still can't get over the fact my mum is Cindy Beale!!! But especially in @francescahenry1 I genuinely feel a little lost when she's not around!

"Even though I love my (real life) brother Billy, I've always wanted a big sister. I won't get soppy but thanks Franks for making me feel comfortable enough to have these conversations on and off screen. Thank you to everyone who tuned in and to all that reached out."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
