EastEnders' Tony Discipline on whether he'd return as Tyler Moon

Former EastEnders star Tony Discipline has revealed whether or not he'd return to the square.

Discipline joined the soap as Tyler Moon back in 2011, with his character's major storylines including suffering a life-threatening seizure after a boxing match, as well as being involved in an on-off relationship with Whitney Dean.

Tony left the role two years later, after Tyler made the decision to leave Walford behind and join his brother Anthony in working on a cruise ship.

Now, 10 years on from his exit, Tony has now given his thoughts on a prospective comeback – revealing in an interview with The Sun that he would definitely be interested in reprising his role.

"I loved my time there. It was a great chapter in my life and if the opportunity ever came up, I would definitely be interested," he said when asked about a return.

He added: "Tyler's still alive, so it could happen. He left to join his brother Anthony on a cruise. They must have got stuck in the Arctic because it's been a long old cruise!"

Looking back on his time on EastEnders, Tony revealed he was grateful to David Essex, who played his on-screen dad Eddie Moon, for being able to calm his nerves during early days on set.

"When I turned up, I told David, 'I ain't got a clue what I'm doing'," he recalled. "He told me, 'Don't worry son, none of us do'.

"It was exactly what I needed to hear. David was such a nice person."

Since his stint on EastEnders, Tony has mostly lived his life away from the limelight, juggling his work as a firefighter and his co-ownership of a mobile trailer bar service, while still acting – his next project, a film called Dream Hacker, is due to be released later this year.

He said of his firefighting work: "I love it. Every day is different and you feel you're helping your community. It can be quite dangerous but you're trained to deal with those situations."

He added that when he's recognised while working on the bar at events, some customers have taken to nicknaming the trailer 'the Little Vic'.

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
