A charity shop volunteer has won the national British Heart Foundation (BHF) Volunteer of the Year award.

Hannah Willson, 29, was recognised for her dedication to supporting her coworkers and other BHF volunteers. She was nominated by the Eastleigh BHF shop manager, Shawn Clarke

Mr Clarke said: "Hannah has been great with our volunteers who have recently gone through hard times. She treats everyone with real kindness and compassion.

"For Halloween Hannah made everyone trick or treat bags and shared them between staff, volunteers, van drivers, and the area manager. Hannah’s always on hand and willing to help the rest of the team.

“We’re so proud that Hannah won the BHF UK Volunteer of the Year award.

"We’re incredibly lucky to have her as part of our team, and Eastleigh wouldn’t be as great of a shop without Hannah’s hard work, motivation, and dedication. I hope that every shop is as lucky to have someone as great as Hannah!

Ms Wilson said: "I love the shop in Eastleigh. We are more like a family than a team, and it’s a joy to volunteer here. It means so much to be nominated, and it means even more to win. Thank you to the shop team for all their support!"

Sarah Boardman, retail volunteering operations manager at the British Heart Foundation (BHF), said: "Our shops wouldn’t be the same without people like Hannah who generously volunteer their time and help us. Hannah has worked so hard to make sure her team feels supported in and out of the shop, and we’re so pleased to recognise Hannah with this award.

"Volunteering at the BHF is a great way to get involved in your local community, meet new people and use your skills. Whether its sorting donations, arranging window displays, talking to customers or an online role from home – have a look at our website or pop into your local BHF shop to find out more!"

The BHF annually holds these awards to acknowledge the commendable work of its large base of 18,000 retail volunteers.
