Some readers were hankering after other destinations, and offered a few suggestions of their own for airlines operating from Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

Francophile Janice John suggested easyJet might add Limoges in central France.

Denise Day, meanwhile, is dreaming of an escape to the Greek capital. She said: "We need Athens."

A few sun-seekers said more winter sun destinations would be welcome on Liverpool John Lennon's route map.

Jan Campbell-Hague said: "How about flights to Madeira? Best winter destination by a mile."

Christine Hully suggested flights to Gibraltar could be added, "even if only a couple of flights a week".

About the confirmed destinations, easyJet says: "For those looking for winter sun, both Fuerteventura and Malta could be contenders. Famed for its beautiful beaches, Malta is situated in the heart of the Mediterranean and therefore offers crystal clear seas to explore while Fuerteventura provides over 150 km of beaches of white sand and turquoise waters.

"Berlin and Prague look set to appeal to those eyeing a short city break or travelling for business, while Marrakech offers something unique and is sure to be popular with those seeking a vibrant and culturally rich experience."

easyJet now operates seven aircraft from Liverpool, flying around 2 million passengers a year to 32 destinations.
