ECU to host renowned musician Dr. Geraldine Ong

Apr. 25—Pianist, Dr. Geraldine Ong, is scheduled to perform two events on the East Central University campus on April 26 at 7:30 p.m. and April 28 at 2:30 p.m.

"This weekend will certainly be a big time for music here at ECU," said ECU Director of Bands, Dr. Nick Meyers. "We are fortunate to have renowned pianist Dr. Geraldine Ong on campus."

Friday, April 26, Ong will be giving a full solo piano recital at 7:30 p.m. in the Ataloa Theatre, located inside the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

Sunday, April 28, Ong will be performing "Rhapsody in Blue" with the ECU Wind Ensemble to close out the concert. This performance will also take place inside the Ataloa Theatre.

'"Rhapsody In Blue" was written 100 years ago and is a very unique piece," stated Meyers. "Most people have heard the music in movies and commercials but probably not in person. These events are free and open to the public. Please come and enjoy the hard work the ECU band students have put into their final concert of the semester."

A versatile pianist, Ong performs regularly as a soloist, collaborative artist, and chamber musician. Recent performances with her colleague, Daniel Anastasio, have included major works for four hands and two pianos.

Ong has performed recitals in China, France, Malaysia, the United States and Vietnam, including a debut at the Kennedy Center, Washington DC.

A teacher in demand, Ong is known to be dedicated, enthusiastic and passionate in her teaching. She has given lectures and taught masterclasses internationally. Her students have participated in festivals and competitions, and have been laureates of several local and state competitions, such as the Steinway Junior Piano Competition, Janice Kay Hodges Piano Competition, Texas State University Young Artist Competition, Texas Music Teachers Association's Performance Contests and NODAK Music Competition. Ong herself holds many more accolades.
