Ed Sheeran is hoping to “rewild” the UK by planting as many trees as he can.

The singer has acknowledged his career is “not a hugely sustainable” one but that he was trying to help out by buying land and helping wildlife thrive.

“I’m trying to buy as much land as possible and plant as many trees as possible,” he told BBC Radio London, reports The Independent.

“I am trying to rewild as much of the UK as I can. I love my county and I love wildlife and the environment.

“I feel like I am going to get my head bitten off anytime I say that, as my job is not a hugely sustainable job as I go and play in cities, but I am trying my best.”

Sheeran added that he has a “massive beehive” as well as a “massive wildlife pond” which is home to newts and salamanders, while his East Suffolk estate also hosts a grass snake and hedgehogs.

He went on to reflect on the criticism those in the public eye can get while speaking on sustainability, stating: “Suddenly people try and find things to call them out on.”

Planning disputes surrounding Sheeran’s properties have frequently ended up in the press.

Earlier this year he said neighbours should “mind their own business” over construction at his estate, which has been dubbed ‘Sheeranville’.

“Fourteen thousand trees that were planted, which is great for the environment. There’s load of animals. We let the meadow grow up… I just think people just need to mind their own business,” he stated.
