Ederson injury setback confirmed as Pep Guardiola delivers verdict amid Arsenal title race battle

Pep Guardiola says Ederson's injury 'doesn't look good' as Manchester City prepare for their final four games of the Premier League season.

City worked hard to beat a stubborn Nottingham Forest side, who missed three presentable chances after Josko Gvardiol's goal, but the introduction of Erling Haaland calmed City nerves and sealed an important win in the title race. However, Ederson went off at half-time after receiving treatment earlier in the game.

And Guardiola gave a negative assessment on his goalkeeper's condition. Guardiola said after the game: "It doesn't look good. We see tomorrow with the doctor." Ederson was later seen leaving the stadium with his arm in a sling - this was the third game this season he has gone off injured as a substitute.

Ederson had come off worse in a challenge with Willy Boly, where neither player got the ball, and received treatment on the pitch. He completed the first half but appeared to be holding his shoulder before Stefan Ortega replaced him at the break.

City also missed Phil Foden and Ruben Dias at Forest, who were both ill. However Guardiola confirmed Jeremy Doku's half-time substitution was for tactical reasons as he wanted more touches on the ball in the middle from Mateo Kovacic and Bernardo Silva.

City have six days to prepare for the home visit of Wolves on Saturday, and a week before they travel to Fulham on the penultimate weekend. A midweek trip to Tottenham follows for their game in hand, before a final day clash with West Ham at home. The Blues know if they win all their remaining games they will pip Arsenal to the title.

On Dias and Foden, Guardiola told Match of the Day: "Ruben had a fever and made the effort to go to Brighton but since coming back from there it has gotten worse. And Phil said today that he doesn't feel good so that is why he couldn't be with us."
