A busy Edinburgh roundabout is set to fully reopen a week later than planned with an update being issued.

Following months of roadworks to repair a damaged culvert, Cameron Toll is expected to fully reopen on Sunday, May 19, with the busy route having been closed since February.

Edinburgh Live previously reported that a confirmed full reopening date was given as May 10, after the damaged culvert was discovered during an overnight inspection of the bridge above the roundabout.

As a result, diversions were put in place and access to and from Cameron Toll resulted in huge delays with some motorists opting to ditch their vehicles and walk home as it was quicker.

Ian Murray MP released an update on social media on Thursday, May 9 and said: "I have been told by the council that the full reopening of the Cameron Toll roundabout will be extended by a week to Sunday 19th May.

"The culvert repairs will be completed by this Sunday but resurfacing works need to take place over the next week. The bus gate on Prestonfield Avenue will remain open until the roundabout reopens.

"This is frustrating as I have expressed the importance of completing the works by the initial completion date to end the disruption to the lives of those living in the area".

Edinburgh Travel News also wrote on X, formally known as Twitter: "We've been informed this afternoon the projected date for re-opening has been extended by approximately one week.

"New date May 19th (approx and weather permitting)."

On April 3, we reported how the traffic chaos caused by the lack of access to and from the shopping centre meant cars were being ditched by their owners.

Drone footage taken one afternoon showed a huge queue of traffic the length of the car park. Councillor Scott Arthur, Transport and Environment Convener, previously said: “I know the partial closure of this key arterial route will be frustrating for many, but the culvert repair is essential.

"We’re taking advantage of the situation to resurface roads in the area, and we’re doing these works during the school holidays while things are quieter than normal. I have asked that the resurfacing works are completed as quickly as possible.

“It can take time to get used to a new traffic management set up, but we’ve added additional signage to remind people that there is no through road in the car park.”
