Edinburgh city centre getting new 'gourmet hot pot' restaurant

Work has begun on a new Edinburgh hot pot restaurant as preparations get underway for opening.

Happy Lamb Hot Pot, which has restaurants in cities such as London and Birmingham, is set to move into a vacant unit on 7 South St David Street following the closure of popular Italian eatery Vapiano's.

With an opening date set to be confirmed, construction is well underway, after a planning application was submitted to and accepted by the City of Edinburgh Council.

Happy Lamb Pot describe themselves as providing "the best Mongolian style hot pot" and have 100 restaurants across the world.

The unit was formerly occupied by pizza and pasta restaurant, Vapiano's, who announced their sad closure in July 2023 following five years trading in the capital.

A section of Happy Lamb Hot Pot's 'About Us' page reads: "From the capital of gourmet lamb in Inner Mongolia-Baotou, to Boston; from London to Melbourne… Happy Lamb Hot Pot travels thousands of miles to bring you the best Mongolian style hot pot.

"We encourage our customers to taste the natural flavour of food ingredients by just putting them into our boiling rich broth. Unlike other hot pots that require dipping sauces to enhance the flavour, Happy Lamb hot pot’s soup broth is packed with flavour which is the best base for all fresh food ingredients.
