Edinburgh emergency services swoop on city centre bank as staff evacuated

Edinburgh emergency services swooped to a bank building on Thursday afternoon after a 'suspicious package' was delivered.

Staff at the Lloyds Banking Group building in Fountainbridge were evacuated just after 12.40pm on July 11 following reports of the item. Scottish Fire and Rescue service also confirmed they were in attendance.

Staff at the mailroom were removed from the building as a precaution and investigations later found the package contained no harmful substance.

Police Scotland confirmed just after 3pm the matter had been resolved.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 12.40pm on Thursday, 11 July, 2024, police were advised a suspicious package had been delivered to a business premises on Fountainbridge in Edinburgh.

"Emergency services attended and staff from the mailroom were evacuated as a precaution. Following examination the package was found to contain no harmful substance."
