Edinburgh Fringe comedian Matt Forde has said that he will make a triumphant return to perform at this year's festival after his 'life was turned upside down' while performing in the capital in 2023.

Forde was diagnosed with cancer after he suffered from what he thought was sciatica at the Festival Fringe last year.

The comic had the base of his spine removed just weeks after performing but after learning how to walk again, he is determined to grace the comedy festival again.

His brand new-show, The End of An Era Tour will run from August 1-25 at 8pm at the Pleasance Beyond in the city centre.

Forde is well known as a political comedian and is recognised for his role in Spitting Image, Have I got News For You and the Political Party and British Scandal podcasts.

To warm up for the Fringe, Ford will return to the stage at London's Soho Theatre from May 28 until June 1.

“I cannot wait to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe again, despite returning to the place where my life turned upside down," Forde said. "After my final show there, I was told I had cancer. Instead of going on tour, I was being carved open to have the base of my spine removed.

"Now I know how turkeys feel. And it was in the run-up to Christmas.

"I’m learning to walk again and with the help of two fantastic helpers (sticks), I will be back at on stage. When I was laid in that hospital bed in excruciating pain, the only thought on my mind was ‘at least I’ll get a show out of this’.

"Then I’d remember that I’m a political comedian and I’d think ‘oh well, at least people don’t have to hear me do a show about this.'"
