Edinburgh police and paramedics race to city centre following 'medical emergency'

Emergency services in Edinburgh raced to an incident in the city centre on Saturday morning.

One concerned resident said police were seen going "in and out of McDonalds" on South St Andrew Street at around 11.45am. Edinburgh Trams confirmed the "medical emergency" had led to extended wait times for services.

The condition and age of those involved is not currently known.

Posting to X/Twitter, Edinburgh Trams said: "Due to a medical emergency at Saint Andrew Square we have extended wait times for trams airport bound."

One resident who witnessed the incident told Edinburgh Live: "I was just passing by and spotted the police, the flashing lights were on.

"It looks like something happened in McDonald’s but I’m not too sure, really hope everyone is okay."

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 11.12am on Saturday 15 June to attend an incident on Andrew Square, Edinburgh.

"Two ambulances were dispatched to the scene and one patient was transported to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.”

Police Scotland have been approached for comment.
