Edinburgh weather: City to be hotter than Paraguay for balmy bank holiday weekend

Residents in Edinburgh are set to enjoy a sunny bank holiday weekend, with bright skies over the capital.

Temperatures are set to soar, reaching 18C at some points over the weekend. Over in Paraguay, they're seeing temperatures reach just 17C on Saturday in the capital city of Asunción.

Kicking off on Friday evening, clouds will cover the city with temperatures sitting at around 11C. Moving into Saturday morning, and it'll start off with fog over the city with the sun breaking through towards midday according to the Met Office.

From here, the sunny and bright weekend begins - with temperatures reaching 18C by the late afternoon. Even after clouds move in towards the evening, residents will still enjoy some warmth with the sun still peeking through.

Sunday brings some heavy grey clouds, and lower temperatures of around 11C. Clouds should move on in the afternoon, with a patch of sun in the late evening at around 8pm.

While Monday starts off with grey skies and temperatures of just 9C, conditions will improve as the day moves on. By 10am, it rises to around 12C.

By midday, we can expect bright and sunny skies and temperatures climbing up to 15C by the middle of the afternoon. This will continue into the evening, with the sun setting at around 9.30pm.

Tuesday brings similar conditions, though a brighter start with the sun peaking out by 7am. Temperatures again rise to around 15C by 1pm, remaining this way with sunny skies until sunset - again around 9.30pm.

Summing up the bank holiday weekend, The Met Office said: "A mainly dry day with some warm sunshine by afternoon. A few showers developing across the Southern Uplands. East coast haar. Maximum temperature 21 °C.

"Outlook for Saturday to Monday: A mostly dry and bright few days although becoming cloudy and cooler on Sunday. Still a chance of east coast haar."
