The season’s first piece of silverware will be tantalising close for those who make it through the upcoming quarter-finals of the EFL Cup, with a final at Wembley only two games away.

And the draw appears to be moving inexorably towards a showdown of the big hitters, with four of the Premier League’s six traditional powers left in the hat at the quarter-final stage.

Indeed should the ties go to form the semi-final draw could throw up the tantalising prospect of two-legged Manchester and London derbies. However West Ham, Leicester and Bournemouth will provide stiff opposition for West Ham, Manchester City and Chelsea.

Meanwhile Championship high-flyers Bristol City will doubtless relish the chance to do battle with Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United at Ashton Gate.
