Ego Nwodim Joins Adam Pally & Stephen Curry In Peacock Comedy Series ‘Mr. Throwback’

EXCLUSIVE: Saturday Night Live star Ego Nwodim has been tapped as the female lead opposite Adam Pally and Stephen Curry in the single-camera Peacock comedy series Mr. Throwback. Her casting is not expected to impact her duties on the NBC sketch comedy series, which is in the same corporate family.

The Mr. Throwback mocumentary, from Happy Endings creator David Caspe and writing duo Matthew Libman and Daniel Libman, centers on Danny (Happy Endings alum Pally), a down-on-his-luck memorabilia dealer who looks for redemption by reuniting with his sixth-grade teammate, NBA great Steph Curry.

Nwodim will play Kimberly, Steph’s childhood friend, business partner, manager and essentially his overall handler. Kimberly, Steph, and Danny all grew up together, and while Kimberly is happy to see Danny pop back up in their lives, he’s not about to let Steph get taken advantage of by any of Danny’s schemes.

Caspe writes and exec produces with the Libmans as well as Pally and Unanimous’ Curry and Erick Peyton. David Wain (Wet Hot American Summer) will direct all six episodes and serve as executive producer. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, produces in association with Curry’s Unanimous Media.

On Peacock, Mr. Throwback will join popular mockumentaries such as The Office and Parks and Recreation, whose libraries are on the streamer, as well as the upcoming Office followup.

Nwodim is in her sixth season as a cast member on Saturday Night Live where her list of memorable impressions and characters include Dionne Warwick and Lisa From Temecula. Earlier this year, Nwodim received an NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

She is the latest SNL cast member to branch out into primetime while continuing on the late-night show, joining the likes of Kenan Thompson, who had an NBC sitcom, Kenan, Aidy Bryant (Hulu’s Schill) and Cecily Strong (Apple TV+’s Schmigadoon!)

Some of Nwodim’s other credits include Shrill, Max’s Love Life, Apple TV+’s Roar, IFC’s Brockmire, as well as indie films Spin Me Round and Scrambled. Recently, she appeared in the features Players for Netflix and Lyle Lyle Crocodile for Sony. She is repped by Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment, CAA, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
