Elderly pedestrian seriously injured in crash with car

AN ELDERLY man has been seriously injured after a crash with a car in Boscombe.

The man, in his 70s and from Bournemouth, was walking in Ashley Road, near to the junction with Windham Road, when he was involved in a crash with a grey Vauxhall Mokka.

Emergency services raced to the incident just after 8am on Wednesday, May 1 and put up a cordon around the junction and car.

The man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries and his family has been made aware.

Meanwhile, a woman aged in her 30s has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences.

Witnesses Cassie Sherar and Louise Sussenbach-Paris were on the school run when the incident occurred.

They said: "An elderly man was put in the back of an ambulance. The lollipop lady said the man had blood all over his face."

They said there are frequent crashes in Ashley Road as cars drive too quickly, and it becomes busy during rush hour.

Police constable Mark Burton, of the roads policing team, said: “We are carrying out a full investigation into this collision and I am appealing for any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please come forward.

“I would also urge any motorists who were driving in the area to please review any dashcam footage to see if they have captured anything of relevance.

“Finally, I want to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding during the road closures.

“These are absolutely necessary to allow emergency services to respond and for a thorough examination of the scene to be conducted.”
