Elton John puts personal wardrobe on eBay for AIDS Foundation

Elton John is auctioning off hundreds of items from his iconic personal wardrobe on eBay in his latest push to raise money for his AIDS Foundation.

The auction, called the “Rocket Man Resale,” begins on June 27 and will last for 10 days. Fans can bid on items valued at a range of price points, with all items offered at a starting bid of $26.60. Some items are listed at a “Buy It Now” fixed price. All sales go to helping eradicate AIDS globally and reducing stigma.

“Giving new life to the cherished items from my wardrobe has always been special to me. For decades I’ve donated my closet’s treasures to support the Elton John AIDS Foundation,” John said in a press release. “This Pride Month, I’m excited to share my Atlanta treasure trove on eBay, hoping these items will inspire you to express your unique spirit and bring you as much joy as they’ve brought me.”

“Whether you’re after high-end luxury or something more laid-back, there’s a perfect find for everyone. Even better, every dollar goes to supporting the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s work to end LGBTQ+ stigma,” he continued.

Items available include bespoke Gucci jackets, Versace robes, customized Prada loafers, historic concert T-shirts and baseball caps. The auction will also include a limited selection of items from the closets of David Furnish, Donatella Versace, Brandi Carlile, Betsey Johnson, Robin Roberts and Andy Cohen, according to eBay’s press release.

“Elton John’s wardrobe is decades in the making — to own something worn by him is to own a piece of music and fashion history,” eBay’s vice president of fashion, Charis Marquez, said in the press release.

“Having a cultural icon selling his pre-loved fashion on eBay in support of the Elton John AIDS Foundation is a real indicator of our ability to offer incredible access to luxury items that you just can’t find anywhere else,” Marquez added.

As part of the auction launch, John participated in an “eBay Live” event on June 27. For one day only, “Rocket Man Resale” items are available at an in-store location in New York City.
